Finally exercised.

12. Keep Flickr updated - in progress

I added a few pictures I took when I was in Georgia doing my thesis research... mostly ruins of plantation buildings, and then a few shots of the marsh at Igbo's Landing. The link, again, is http://www.flickr.com/photos/chainse.

56. Exercise 2-3 times a week (10/143) - in progress

There is a path through the arboretum to campus that takes 20 or 30 minutes depending on how motivated I am to get to where I'm going... walked that three times this week. And I went to UREC twice! Here's the thing, I love being active. I just need the right opportunities.

66. Stop using plastic grocery bags - in progress

I'm about to go to the grocery store right now, and there were free reusable Kroger bags in our mail room the first week, so I'm going to bring those and use them and feel very environmentally responsible.

Update!

7. Watch all movies on AFI's top 100 list (22/100) - in progress

I watched Double Indemnity last week, which was about a man who helps a woman murder her husband for insurance money. It was OK... it was in black and white, which I didn't expect because I didn't pay attention to the year it was made, and that kind of threw me. But it kind of played out like Law and Order, so it gets a six maybe.

8. Read 50 books (19/50) - in progress

I read "God, Dr. Buzzard and the Bolito Man" by Cornelia Bailey, which reads like a memoir of her time growing up on Sapelo Island in Georgia. I read it because I thought I was going to tour Sapelo and meet Cornelia when I was down doing research for my thesis, but that ended up not happening, and in the end I don't really mind because her book was so interesting. I liked it a lot.

13. Complete a soundtrack to '09, '10 & '11 - in progress

I updated from this summer, but I only have a few songs, so that might be changed... I think I have ten or fifteen for the year right now.

27. Follow Virgina Tech and Steelers teams for a full football season - in progress

Wrote all the Steelers & televised Tech games into my calendar... I really wanted to watch the Steelers/Redskins preseason last night, but I don't get the NFL network... which is all just as well, because they lost. Oops.

37. Own a plant for at least a year without killing it - in progress

An orchid plant came into my possession August 13, 2009. It was from Chris... sometime during my sophomore year, I think... but I had taken it home over Christmas and forgotten about it. So I brought it back to school and I'm going to mother it. We'll see.

42. Try 15 new restaurant (13/15) - in progress

Went to Moe's when I was in South Carolina, which was a lot of food, and good in that sense. But I'm not such a fan of fast food mexican places -- Chipotle, Qdoba, etc. But Moe's was alright.

56. Exercise 2-3 times a week (9/143) - in progress

A no-go for the past two weeks. I worked out on Monday but I didn't do it again this week. I'm here at JMU now though, so I have UREC.

Books, movies, exercise.

7. Watch all movies on AFI's top 100 (21/100) - in progress

I watched Sophie's Choice last night, which was long. I had to split it into two parts. A handful of things struck me since I had just finished reading the book: Meryl Streep is not how I saw Sophie. I know they kept saying, she's blonde, she looks German, she looks Aryan... but I still saw her with dark hair. And younger looking. And Stingo, forgot he was southern. Again, the book emphasizes it, but I didn't hear him speaking in a Southern accent. I will say though, that the scenes in Auschwitz were much more emotional in the movie... I felt for Sophie more after seeing that then I did after reading.

8. Read 50 books (18/50) - in progress

Finally finished "Sophie's Choice." When I picked it up, I was like OK, this is a regular-sized book, maybe a little heavy. No. It was almost 600 pages, and tiny print. Hence it took me nearly three weeks to power through. Only thing that kept me going was trying to figure out what on Earth her choice WAS. Also read "Tales of Beedle the Bard," by JK Rowling, which felt like a marketing ploy to extend HP, except that it was dumb and not entertaining... it seemed... indulgent? Anyways, I also read another Picoult, "Vanishing Acts," which was good and quick. Three weeks to read Sophie's Choice, two days to read the Picoult. What gives.

56. Exercise 2-3 times a week (9/143) - in progress

Done! For this week anyhow. I went hiking twice -- once with a friend, once with Adam.

59. Go hiking three times (2/3) - in progress

As was indicated above, I went hiking this week, both times in the Bennett's Pond trail system. I liked Pierrepont better, I think, or at least the trail we were on there... Bennett's Pond has so many intersecting trails that I didn't feel like we had an end point or destination. I wanted a summit, or a view. But, it gets me exercising.

Things I've Done.

4. Finish knitting the blanket - accomplished

I finished the knitting about a week ago, and then sewed the five strips together in the past week. The blanket is much bigger than I anticipated - almost large enough for a double bed. I took a nap with it yesterday, and I loved it. This is the biggest knitting project I've undertaken, and despite the fact it was a straight knit, it took me about a year and a half to do the 30 hours of knitting. I am really glad I'm done.

35. Attend a wine tasting - accomplished

I went with two friends to Sarah's Wine Bar a few weeks ago. It was only $10, for a local charity, and four wines. I apparently am not very good at the whole "wine tasting" thing, because I don't know what I drank exactly, but it was a white, a rose, and two reds. It was fun, I suppose, but not exactly what I expected.

38. Go to the White Elephant or similar flea market at least twice a summer (2/6) - in progress

I dragged Evan and his girlfriend yesterday, although I wasn't as impressed as I was last time. The flea market is usually a hit or miss -- it has a million things I think I need, or nothing that catches my eye. I will say though, that the flea market makes me want my own house or unfurnished apartment like nobody's business. I know it sounds strange, but I can't wait to buy my own furniture.

42. Try 15 new restaurants (12/15) - in progress

I ate at Ritz Asia the other week with my friend Alex. It's supposed to be Asian fusion, but I think it was really just Asian food. In any case, it was delicious. I had some kind of mango chicken. And it's in the same building that Biksbees used to inhabit last summer, so it was fun to see it redecorated inside.

56. Exercise 2-3 times a week (8/143) - in progress

Don't even look at me. I am a disgrace... started in mid-March, it's now August... 18 weeks and eight of them I've exercised twice or more. I need to get back into the gym and into a routine. I now realize how incredible a resource UREC is.
